The M&A team at Interpath has advised road planing specialist J Fisher & Sons Limited on the sale of the business to The Fox Group, an integrated construction materials provider.
Manchester-based J Fisher & Sons is a key player in the heavy haulage, road planing, and asphalt reprocessing industry in the North West and manages over 200kt of recycled asphalt planings (‘RAP’) each year.
RAP materials are produced when roads are resurfaced or repaired and can be recycled into new asphalt for construction and put to other uses in the construction industry. The transaction will support The Fox Group as it continues its transformation into a fully integrated, circular construction materials business, and complements the Group’s new £4m Leyland Asphalt plant that is set to open July 2025.
This marks the first acquisition by Blackpool-based The Fox Group since being acquired by Stellex Capital Management in September 2024, which backs the Group’s organic and acquisitive growth strategy.
Heath Snyder, M&A Managing Director at Interpath, who led the transaction alongside Reuben Taylor and Andrej Yaksender, said: “J Fisher & Sons is a longstanding family business that has firmly established itself in the North West construction market taking a lead in the transport of road surfacing equipment, road planning, and asphalt reprocessing across the region. The acquisition by Fox Group builds on that proud history and enables the business to become part of a thriving circular construction and infrastructure group, further supporting Fox’s expansion across the UK. Consolidation is a major driver of corporate activity in the market right now as larger players look to diversify and build scale to build resilience and drive growth, so we should expect more movement in sector throughout the rest of the year.”
Colin Fisher, Director at J Fisher & Sons, said: “We’re thrilled to have joined The Fox Group and play a fundamental role in the organisation’s growth strategy and transition towards becoming a fully integrated, circular construction materials business. Thanks to the team at Interpath that expertly guided us through this process, which presents an exciting opportunity for all of us at J Fisher & Sons to further build on our heritage here in the North West and across the UK.”
Paul Fox, CEO of Fox Group, said: “This is an extremely exciting time for the company and this acquisition will further broaden our circular offering to our customers and bring our annual use of recycled products to circa 2 million tons. Fishers has a strong management team, and we welcome them and their colleagues as we continue with our expansion plans. We are committed to a smooth transition for the teams and customers of Fishers and we anticipate continued success and growth through this synergistic partnership.”
