The joint administrators of Headlam Group plc and HFD Limited (“the Companies”), Will Wright, Chris Pole and Ryan Grant of Interpath, can confirm a sale of certain of the Companies’ business and assets to Likewise Group plc, the Birmingham-based flooring distributor.
The transaction sees Likewise Group acquire Headlam’s distribution hub in Thatcham, Berkshire, in addition to the Crucial Trading and Concept Flooring brands and associated businesses in Kidderminster, Smethwick and Longton (Stoke-on-Trent). As part of the transaction, a total of 110 staff will transfer to the purchaser.
In addition, the joint administrators have entered into a stock agency agreement with Likewise that will see Likewise assist the Joint Administrators in selling all residual stock across Headlam’s remaining network of premises.
Will Wright, Chris Pole and Ryan Grant were appointed joint administrators to Headlam Group plc, as well as its trading subsidiary HFD Limited, on 8 September 2026. Following their appointment, the business continued to trade while a restructure of the business and a thorough exploration of options was conducted, including exploring the possibility of exiting the administration through a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
As part of the initial cost reduction measures taken, 28 of the Group’s trade counters closed with immediate effect. Since then, an additional 25 trade counters have closed, resulting in a further 64 redundancies. (See list of additional closures in the Notes to Editors.)
Separately, Ian Leonard and Stuart Irwin of Interpath were appointed joint administrators to Ceco (Flooring) Limited, a subsidiary of HFD Limited, on 30 September 2026. Following the appointment of the administrators, Ceco ceased to trade and as a result, the majority of the Company’s nine employees were made redundant. A small number of staff were retained by the joint administrators to assist with an orderly wind-down of the business.
The joint administrators of Headlam Group plc and HFD Limited continue to review options for the remaining business and assets, including those businesses trading under the name of Domus and Melrose.
Ryan Grant, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator said: “Following our appointment, we set out to explore all options available to the Companies including exiting the administration through a CVA and a broader restructuring of the Group's debt. Over the past weeks, we have worked closely with the Companies’ key stakeholders to test those routes thoroughly.
“As that work has progressed, it has become clear that a sale of certain parts of the business and assets represents the best and most deliverable outcome for creditors. We are therefore pleased to secure this transaction which safeguards the Crucial Trading and Concept Flooring brands, as well as the Thatcham site, and we continue to assess the options available for the Group's remaining businesses.”
